Birth Of BeowulfSclyd was a good king, so the king of all life gave him a gift from the heavens; which was beowulf. So, beowulf who is directly from the heavens is automatically granted a good home. Beowulf then begins making friendships, handing out presents, and other good deeds. These actions almost guaranteed men to be called into battle later. Sclyd then dies in the prime of his life, leaving Beowulf with a kingdom and a lot of power. The significance of this is that it spawns a future hero. Beowulf coming from the heavens, gaining favors from men, doing good deeds, are all significant to the hero to come. This is the man that will soon slay demons to help others in need.

Hrothgar's Great Mead HallHrothgar is the King of Danes, he has a great deal of compassion for his warriors and his people. The hall was designed and created by architects from all around the world. The Mead Hall is more than a pace to drink, it is a hall which is a home for the warriors who sleep there and functions as a seat of government. The Mead Hall is a place of light, warmth, and joy; until grendel had begun to kill and eat people which turned into the murderer hall. In Heorot, Hrothgar celebrated his victories and rewarded his warriors with various treasures. This hall is very symbolic because this is the setting of where Beowulf and Grendel have their first battle.

The fight between Beowulf and GrendelGrendel, a vile and despicable creature, has been killing and devouring men in Hrothgar's kingdom for 12 years. Beowulf then comes to Hrothgar's lands and tells Hrothgar that he will slay the beast. During the night the beast returns to Herot to continue his disgusting act. Beowulf ,wide awake at the creature's arrival , fights Grendel without the use of a sword. Since man's weapons were unable to tear Grendel's skin; Beowulf could only use the strength of his bare hands. Grendel was filled with fear and regret the whole battle because he had never met a man that strong. In the end Grendel escaped, but only with one arm because Beowulf had ripped it off. Beowulf had won the battle and hung the demon's arm in the mead hall as a trophy for his victory. Once Grendel's mother found out she was not happy about the news that her son had been killed by Beowulf.
